May 18

Greeting to all my friends.

Well we have completed the tour of Jay and Friends and I wanted to say thank you to everyone who made it possible. I wanted to thank your mums and dads and Grand parents and teachers for bringing your smiling faces to see my show. Peter and Holly and Jamie and I had such a great time in all the venues and what made it special was that YOU were there, dancing and singing with us. The tour made me realise that there were a lot of children who don't get the chance to see a show like ours and so I have made a decision to try and get the show up and running again for the next holidays. That is what I would like to do, but you all have to promise that if I do get the show ready to travel again, that you will tell all your friends so that we can meet them and have a dance and sing with them too.

I am currently working on a new police show for channel nine called The Strip, with my good friend Aaron Jefferies and that is filmed on the beautiful shores of Southport in Surfers Paradise. I am also shooting some more Playschools shows and I have just been told that K-Mart are about to stock my," Come Dance and Sing", album along with the Jays Place DVD, so you will probably see me doing an instore show near you. Don't worry I will make sure that I tell everyone where I am.

I recently hosted the Stillbirth Foundation charity Ball and we raised lots of money for research into Stillbirth and it's effects. I am the Patron of the Stillbirth Foundationa and it is something that I feel passionate about.

Keep checking the website for more information on what we are up to and I would love from you too, so send me an email and tell me what you are up to as well. I am looking into the possibilities of taking the show interstate and going to places like Melbourne and Adelaide and Brisbane and Tassie and Perth. So I will let you know about that. I look forward to hearing from you and till we dance again, take care, Love Jay

Jay and Friends tour is underway. Hip Hip Hooray!!!

Well the tour is under way and thank you to everyone who has come to our first 3 shows. We started off at Souths Juniors on the 14th of April and I have to admit that I was a little nervous. We had never run the show completely and I knew that we would take a little time to get the rhythm going. Luckily for us the audience were FANTASTIC and they danced and played with us. I was very pleased with how the new material was received and we had a lot of interest at the merchandise tables. Overall, I though that the South Juniors Leagues club gave us a great send off. The band had a great time and for me as a performer and producer, I was happy because the audience were happy. We then moved onto Revesby Workers club the following day and even though we had our first show under our belts, I knew that we would have to concentrate and really put on a show. I didn't have anything to worry about because the band was great and the audience just got up and danced. For a performer to see the children embrace your efforts, like the children did at both the shows makes the sweating all worth while.

It was indeed a vocal crowd and we got to chatting to them afterwards and they were really pleased to have the show and also to take home the first ever Jays Place T-Shirts. Our third show was at the famous Cronulla Sharks. It is a venue that has had some great acts perform and I knew that we would have to bring our top game if we were to entertain the children here. The show was a little different here because we were expecting a 10 am show and it was only at 10 am did we realise that it was the time that the doors opened and that our actual show was at 10: 30 am. I do apologise to those who came a little later and found that we had already started. This is all new to me and I am learning as we go, but I do promise to learn from these minor glitches and make sure everyone gets to see the full show. We had a fantastic time again and I have to say that I am enjoying the show more and more because I can see that everyone has come to have a good time. I want to thank Megan Crozier and Robert Paterson from ABC Music for allowing me to have the Jays Place DVD on sale at my shows. It is a DVD of the show that I had written late last year and the band and I performed it at the beautiful Sydney Theatre. Earlier this year we were awarded the Sydney Theatre Critics Award for Outstanding Children's Production for 2007. We recorded it and now we have been given the first opportunity to have it before it is released nationwide to all the ABC Stores on May the 7th.

Thanks to everyone who came to the show and then told friends about it and also thank you to all those people who worked at the venues and made the shows possible. Jay and Friends is a show written for children with their parents in mind. I truly believe that you can entertain the little ones with song and dance and at the same time have an adult conversation and joke with their parents and grandparents. For me it is like having a family meal. We make sure the children are happy and catered for and then we have our interaction. That is not to say that the show has no direction. It is about bringing children back to the simplicity of playing. I hope that it is teaching them about using things that they have lying around the house to create things from their imagination.
It is a philosophy that I had learned after years of working on PLAYSCHOOL. It is about making the MUMS and DADS the creators of fun things. We hope that in creating things using the JUMBLE BOX in our show, that it will spark your child's imagination so that they would like to go home to their JUMBLE BOXES and make a bike or a kangaroo.

We travel to Dapto Leagues Club on the 23rd and then the Saint George Sailing Club the following day. I hope to see everyone out there or at one of the other show venues. Thank you for writing in and giving me feedback and encouragement. It is greatly appreciated and please take the time to get others to log onto www.jaysplace.com.au for more information and feedback as the tour continues.

If you get a chance and you want to have some adult time out and see a great band, I encourage you to go to the Basement 22nd of April for a benefit concert called, " For the Love of Treez" . Our percussionist Peter will be playing with some great performers and the proceeds go to Cancer treatment. I am also performing on Wednesday night at Newton Theatre for the Cracker Comedy Festival. I am performing with 5 other improv actors in Tabloid Musical. We will be performing a musical that will be completely improvised over an hour period. See your local papers for more details and if you get a chance to see the Jodi
Foster, Abigail Breslin movie," Nim's Island" I suggest you get a good look at it. Yours truly plays a helicopter pilot. I gained my flying abilities while working on Playschool.

I will try and keep up to date with my blog and please tell people about the show and I look forward to reading your comments.
Take care,
Love Jayxx
